Description

AquaShieldPro CW 31 is a two-component acrylic modified cementitious coating consisting of a powder which is a blend of Portland cement, selected silica sands and modifying agents. When mixed to a slurry consistency with AquaShieldPro CW 31 liquid, an acrylic polymer emulsion, it can be easily applied by brush, roller or trowel. It cures to give a waterproof, elastomeric hard wearing, flexible membrane providing an effective barrier to water- borne salts and atmospheric gases and resurface concrete, masonry, and most other construction materials.

AquaShieldPro Smart CW 31 has excellent bonding properties to all concrete, masonry, ceramic and marble surfaces, as long as they are sound and sufficiently clean. It must be reinforced with mesh across all construction joints and cracks. The reinforcing mesh maybe 100% virgin polypropylene

Typical Applications

  • All types of structural repair which can be applied by trowel or wet spray.
  • Suitable for internal and external use, against positive and negative water pressure.
  • For waterproofing of water-retaining structures which may be subject to movement.
  • For use in wet area waterproofing (under-tile) where tiles are to be installed directly on top of the membrane
  • As a vapour barrier, Damp proofing for facades.
  • For waterproofing swimming pools, pool surrounds, wet rooms, balconies, terraces, roof
  • As a waterproof coating behind tiles and stone to prevent staining
  • Flexible protection layer of new concrete structures or repaired structures subject to minor deformation under load.
  • Flexible waterproofing and protection of reinforced concrete structures against the effects of freeze-thaw and carbon dioxide attack to improve durability including tanks with drinking water, basins, pipes, etc.
  • As a waterproof and protection coating for concrete structures, renders, cementitious screeds
  • For coating seawater channels.
  • For waterproofing and protection against brackish and sea water
  • To provide foundation protection.
  • As a waterproof coating for roofs.
  • To provide protection to concrete surfaces from water, carbonation, chloride attack and deicing salts.
  • For use on pedestrian walkways in marine areas.
  • As a waterproof and protection coating on top of spray polyurethane foam roof insulation

Benefits

  • Breathable - whilst repelling water, allows substrate to breathe
  • Approved for use in contact with potable water
  • Can be applied to 24 hour-old concrete thereby giving immediate protection
  • Excellent crack accommodation before and after immersion
  • Easily applied by brush, roller, trowel or airless spray
  • Retains flexibility when submerged and freeze-thaw resistant
  • Withstands occasional foot traffic
  • Even if the membrane gets mechanically damaged, it can be easily repaired locally within minutes.
  • Outstanding wear and weather resistance and good resistance to sea water, sodium hydroxide, calcium chloride, de-icing salts.
  • Good resistance to mild acids
  • Excellent adhesion. Bonds to porous and non-porous surfaces
  • Anti-carbonation coating
  • Environmentally friendly.
  • Long working life
  • Suitable for light pedestrian traffic
  • Unlike conventional coatings which require a 7–28-day cure of concrete, AquaShieldPro CW 31 can be applied to 24 hour-old concrete thereby giving immediate protection
  • Low odor, allowing installation in occupied buildings
  • Extremely low permeability - gives excellent resistance to attack by aggressive elements
  • Pre-bagged - only the site addition of clean water is required

Substrate Preparation

The substrates must be sound, clean, dust free and free from all traces of oil, grease, curing compound, gypsum, residual paint, corrosion deposits or algae, laitance which would impair adhesion. Conventional concrete curing compounds should be removed before application of the product. The exception to this is when BondPro Cure RB, resin-based curing compound has been used. Cracks, voids and honeycombs in concrete surfaces must be repaired with suitable repair products from RepairPro product range.

All the patched area to cure before applying the membrane. Clean surface by blast cleaning, high-pressure water jetting (400 bar), wire brushing, grinding, etc. in order to remove all previous coatings, any traces of grease, rust, release agents, cement laitance and any other material which could reduce adhesion. All dust deposits from preparation must be removed by vacuum. The surface must be adequately dampened before application

Product Preparation

The product is supplied in pre-measured units and should be mixed in clean containers. Slowly add the powder to the liquid and mix, using a slow speed drill fitted with a suitable paddle until a uniform and lump-free consistency is achieved and allow to stand for 5 minutes and re-mix, the paste is then ready to use. Do not mix more material than can be used in one hour. Do not prepare the mix by hand.

NOTE: Although the product is supplied in pre-measured packs, part packs can be used by mixing 2 volumes of powder to 1 volume of liquid. Mix thoroughly and keep mixed during application

Product Application

Saturate concrete surfaces with clean water whilst still visibly damp, but free of standing water, apply, using a short, stiff bristle brush or roller. Trowel application can be undertaken as necessary. For heavy 6-10 mm depressions, honeycombs etc. use less gauging liquid and mix to the desired consistency. The first coat should be applied at a minimum thickness of 1mm (approximate coverage is 1.6kg/m²) and should be well brushed into the surface. Application may also be made by roller; however, it is recommended to finish the surface with a trowel for best results. It is recommended, for general resurfacing, that each coat should be a minimum of 1 mm thick. Wait until the first layer is dry before applying subsequent layers. Pre-dampening of the surface is not necessary, when applying the second coat. The application shall cover the whole surface of the substrate in a uniform thickness.

Apply AquaSieldPro CW 31 by:

  • spatula/roller: Exerting good and even pressure onto the substrate.
  • brush: In 2 directions (diagonally opposite/crosswise).
  • mechanical spray: recommended for large areas

Curing and Protection:

In order to protect AquaShieldPro CW 31 against any damage caused by e.g backfilling or traffic, it must be protected using either a cementitious screed or protection boards. A separation sheet can be laid under the protection layer if necessary, to avoid any bonding to the membrane.

Tiling or finished flooring installations should be carried out as soon as possible after full cure of membrane is established. Under hot or excessive drying conditions adequate protective shielding should be foreseen.

In cold, humid, or unventilated areas it may be necessary to leave the application for a longer curing period. AquaShieldPro CW 31 needs to cure under dry-air conditions. Additional heating and/or ventilation can assist proper curing. NEVER use dehumidifier during curing periods.

Storage & Shelf Life:

12 months from manufacturing date in original and unopen packaging, under cover, in dry condition, away from humidity, heat, moisture, protected from extreme temperatures, rainfall & direct sunlight. Excessive exposure to sunlight, humidity and UV will result in the deterioration of the quality of the product and reduce its shelf life
